Hamilton Wingo partner Damian Williams recently delivered a presentation on how trial attorneys can take a deeper look at police reports and investigations at The Car Crash Seminar hosted by The University of Texas at Austin School of Law.

The two-day seminar featured in-depth examinations of each step in a car crash case, including responsibility for medical bills, police investigations, insurance claims, and many other vital areas. Plaintiff and defense lawyers from across Texas attended the annual event.

In his presentation titled “Anatomy of a Police Report,” Mr. Williams shared his insights on the key details found in police reports for cases involving severe personal injuries or wrongful death. He also discussed how to develop a personal injury case involving a police report adverse to your client.

Attendees learned about Hamilton Wingo’s success in a 2023 trial regarding a trucking fatality after convincing the lead collision investigator to agree that the original police report blaming the firm’s client was likely wrong. The jury returned a seven-figure verdict for Mr. Williams’ client.

As a former assistant DA with the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office, Mr. Williams provides extra knowledge when clients’ cases involve police reports. That experience helped him and fellow firm partner Barrett Robin win the state’s largest uninsured motorist verdict in 2022 for a client injured in a crash caused by a tractor-trailer driver without insurance. The case included witness testimony that Mr. Williams and Mr. Robin successfully called into question based on the details of the police report.

Since Mr. Williams was promoted to partner last fall, he has continued his rise as one of the leading young plaintiffs’ lawyers in North Texas and the nation. His expertise in personal injury trials was recognized in the 2024 Lawdragon 500 Leading Plaintiff Consumer Lawyers guide, which includes fewer than 1 percent of attorneys nationally, and the 2024 Texas Super Lawyers Rising Stars list of the state’s top up-and-coming attorneys.
