DALLAS – Dallas trial lawyers Chris Hamilton and Paul Wingo have been nominated for the Dallas Morning News Texan of the Year honors for their legal aid to immigrants and foreign travelers detained at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport during President Trump’s initial travel ban in early 2017. Friend and attorney Matt Mitzner of Thompson & Knight LLP is also nominated for this honor.

Each year, the Dallas Morning News invites community leaders to designate a person or group of people who have made a significant impact in Texas. Past recipients include President George W. Bush, U.S. District Judge Janis Jack, and Ebola health care workers, Dr. Kent Brantly, Amber Vinson and Nina Pham. The Texan of the Year is announced Dec. 31.

“It’s a tremendous honor to be included in this impressive group,” said Hamilton Wingo co-founder Chris Hamilton. “The true heroes are the people who came to this country and had the courage to fight through the roadblocks the system created. We only made sure their rights were protected.”

Mr. Hamilton and Mr. Wingo formed Lawyers for America with the help of Dallas lawyer Lisa Blue in response to the detention of foreign nationals traveling through D/FW International Airport. The nonprofit organization offers free legal assistance to people whose rights have been violated.

“Chris and I fight for the same causes,” said Mr. Wingo. “We partnered this year to continue fighting for justice and to help people who have been wronged. To be nominated for Texan of the Year means so much.”

The pair went into practice together, launching the Hamilton Wingo law firm earlier this year, because of their shared passion for representing people in tough legal disputes. Their clients include individuals who are seriously injured through corporate negligence and companies involved in all types of business disputes.

The trial lawyers at Hamilton Wingo, LLP, are devoted to representing people in high-stakes, complex litigation, on a contingent fee basis. They have obtained more than $100 million in verdicts and settlements for their clients. For more information, visit hamiltonwingo.com/.
